Just as B.C. residents were warned spring might not around the corner, a snowfall warning is being issued for the Coquihalla Highway.

Meteorologists say western Canada will be prone to more frequent dips into late winter weather through March and early April before more typical spring weather sets in.

Starting Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada is forecasting a weather system that will spread snow to southern B.C. highway passes.

Most highway passes will receive between 5 to 10 centimetres of snow by Wednesday morning. While on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, a snowfall alert for up to 25 cm is expected.

Snow will taper off Wednesday morning but is expected to intensify again on Thursday and Friday with further accumulation.
