Interior Health is warning that the emergency room at South Okanagan General Hospital is going to be closed overnight due to a physician shortage.

The South Okanagan emergency room will be closed from 8 p.m. today (Oct. 14) to 8 a.m. Oct. 15.

In a release Sunday afternoon, Interior Health said it “regrets this interruption to our normal emergency department services” and apologized “for any inconvenience this may cause.”

This is not the first time SOGH emergency has been forced to close temporarily. It also closed overnight on Aug. 17, 2018, and twice in 2017 during the summer.

For people needing care while the SOGH emergency department is closed, Interior Health recommends calling 911 in the event of an emergency, visiting the emergency department at Penticton Regional Hospital (550 Carmi Ave.) or calling HealthLinkBC at 811 (24 hour service) if you are unsure about your need to go to the emergency department.
