Penticton naval veteran Bill Bowen talks to 10-year-old Nash Bayston about the significance of the tulips at Selby Park Tuesday.

Thursday starting at 11 a.m. at Selby Park there will be a special ceremony that will include a recounting of the history of the enduring friendship of Canada and the Netherlands. Childen, veterans and the general public are expected to attend. Kids helped plant the tulips last fall after the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen received one of the Dutch-Canadian Frienship Gardens.

Dutch tulip bulbs were sent to Canada in the fall of 1945 as a symbol of appreciation for the role Canadian soldiers played in the liberation of the Netherlands and the hospitality Canada provided for the Dutch royal family in Ottawa where Princess Margaret was born during the Second World War.
