Social media played a significant role in the recovery of a beloved hot rod that went missing from a South Okanagan home.

RCMP said family and friends of the owner of a 1939 Willy’s hot rod advertised the theft on social media and it garnered over 120,000 views. A reward was also offered for the vehicle’s return. However, RCMP at this time do not know the identity of those who stole the hot rod or who returned it intact.

“What is known is that the vehicle was delivered to an undisclosed location in Oliver,” said Sgt. Jason Bayda. “The vehicle is now in the possession of the Osoyoos RCMP who are currently looking at all investigative avenues to identify those responsible.”

Bayda said what is clear is the endless efforts the family and friends made to have the vehicle returned to the owner.

Vanessa Pfannenschmidt said on social media that the family has spent long exhausting days searching for her father’s car since it was stolen on Jan. 17. A vehicle he spent 15 years restoring.
