Peter Waterman, a two-time Summerland councillor, announced his intention to run for mayor this fall. Current mayor Janice Perrino earlier said that she didn’t plan to run again.
Waterman, a professional horticulturist and operator of a successful apple and cherry business, was the only member of council to publicly oppose the Agricultural Land Reserve land swap proposed by Summerland council earlier this year, which continues to be a controversy in the community.
Christopher Boisvert-Gilman has also declared his intention to run for Summerland council, but said he plans to run a poll first, asking community members whether he should run for councillor or mayor.
