A Summerland driver is facing charges of driving while prohibited after being involved in a two-vehicle collision on Jan. 22.

The driver was travelling north on Hwy. 97, attempting to turn left in Summerland onto Rosedale Ave., at approximately 5 p.m. when they were struck by another vehicle travelling south on the highway.

“The impact resulted in the (north-bound) vehicle being pushed into a traffic standard,” states a release from Cst. James Grandy with Penticton RCMP. “A pedestrian, who was standing near the intersection waiting to cross, was also struck and sustained minor injuries.”

The driver and passenger of the struck vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, while the other driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. It was at this time that investigators learned the driver of the north-bound vehicle is currently prohibited from driving a motor vehicle in B.C.

Earlier information provided by the Penticton RCMP identified the prohibited driver as the one travelling south-bound, but they have since issued a release correcting the error.

Grandy said while the prohibited driver was not arrested, they are facing charges and the incident is still under investigation.

“With the increase in snow falls recently, we urge drivers to take their time and be vigilant while driving”, encouraged. Cst. Grandy.
