A former Surrey councillor is set to try for a seat in Penticton after recently coming to the community.
Jack Hundial announced his candidacy for Penticton city council on Aug. 30, sharing the news with a post to Facebook of him signing his nomination papers.
A 25-year veteran of the RCMP, after retiring Hundial was elected to Surrey’s city council in 2018.
Earlier in August, Hundial had announced that he wouldn’t be running for re-election in Surrey.

Public safety was the cornerstone of his initial pitch to Penticton residents, along with his support for more housing and housing options.
“I want to make sure that everyone in Penticton feels safe, whether you are walking with your family down the street or operating a business here,” Hundial said in a press release. “We have a social responsibility to ensure that we take care of our most vulnerable, but at the same time preserve what makes Penticton such a jewel and livable community.”
Hundial currently works in the South Okanagan as an investigator for FortisBC on electricity thefts.
