Suspicious fire may be related to Summerland assault

Police are still unsure whether a suspicious fire in the 9000 block of Canyon View Road is connected to an assault.

It is unclear whether a reported assault is connected to a suspicious fire in Summerland Tuesday.

On March 1 a 69-year-old man reported at the Summerland RCMP detachment that he had been assaulted. During the investigation, officers learned that first responders were attending the victims’ residence in the 9000 block of Canyon View Road for a suspicious fire.

Police say it is unclear at this time whether or not the two incidents are connected. Both investigations are active and ongoing.

Police currently have a 64-year-old man in custody regarding the assault and investigators can confirm that the two individuals know each other and the public is not at risk.

Summerland RCMP are asking anyone with information regarding either incident to call  250-404-2000. If you wish to remain anonymous, please call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (tips).
