It’s that time of year for mail theft.
The Penticton RCMP said a number of Canada Post mailboxes have been tampered with.
As a result, Penticton RCMP is investigating several thefts from mailboxes located at four different locations in the city.
Since Nov. 21, mail has been stolen by people who are targeting pre-paid credit cards, gift cards, cheques and other documents that make it easier to access personal information. This is also the time of year when gifts come through the mail.
“We are actively investigating these thefts and in the meantime want to encourage the public to attend in person at their local post office to make sure their letters are delivered,” said Const. James Grandy. “If one must use one of the community mailboxes, they should consider doing so during the week, and earlier in the day on weekdays.”
“This way, their mail won’t be left inside the box over a weekend.”
Penticton RCMP revealed four locations where they believe mail had been tampered with.
• Kendall Cres / Ridgedale Ave
• 650 Duncan Ave W
• Braid St / Eckhardt Ave E
• Maccleave Ave / Woodlands Dr
“We’re also asking the public if they should have any available CCTV which may have captured mailboxes in the locations above to contact us.”
If you observe suspicious activity at a mailbox, the RCMP asks that you call 250-492-4300. To remain anonymous, people can phone 1-800-222-8477.
