Up to 8 care home outbreaks in South Okanagan

Two more Penticton and one Summerland facility added to the list at the end of January

The South Okanagan currently has eight COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term or assisted living facilities.

Three new outbreaks were added to the Interior Health list in the last week.

An outbreak was declared in Cottage #3 at Village by the Station on Jan 27 in Penticton; at St. Andrew Pavilion in Summerland on Jan. 28; and at Trinity Care Centre in Penticton on Jan. 31.

The three new outbreaks join five active outbreaks declared earlier in January, one of which was Oliver’s McKinney Place.

The McKinney Place outbreak in 2021 saw a total of 78 cases and 17 deaths between Dec. 6, 2020 and Jan. 18, 2021.

An outbreak at Village by the Station in September through October 2021 saw 32 cases and three deaths.

Interior Health is not currently releasing information on the number of cases or the breakdown of staff and residents who are sick.
