Police investigate Friday morning after responding to shots fired on Thursday morning and found one man deceased at a Penticton motel.

RCMP are now confirming that the shooting that occurred last week at a Penticton motel is a homicide.

RCMP Cpl. Dave Tyreman confirmed the fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of June 4 at a Penticton motel is being investigated as a homicide.

"The only information I have from the investigative team that has come to me is that they are confirming it as a homicide," Tyreman said.

Police have yet to disclose any information regarding the identity of the victim or suspect at this time.

Penticton police responded to a complaint of shots fired in the 1000 block of Lakeshore Road and when officers arrived they found a deceased male at the Golden Sands Resort Motel.

The Southeast Major Crime Unit and General Investigative Unit have been called in to assist the Penticton unit with the investigation into the second murder of the year in Penticton.

Police say they believe the suspected shooting to be an isolated incident and want to reassure the public that they are not at risk.

The release of the name of deceased male will not be released by the RCMP pending the notification of next of kin.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the local Penticton detachment at 250-492-4300, or submit information anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
