Quick work from Penticton Fire and Rescue prevented a vehicle fire from becoming a major incident.

Crews were called to the scene of a truck fire on Reservoir Road just after noon today (June 8), where they found a silver Dodge Ram pickup with the cab and engine compartment fully engulfed in flames, about three kilometres past the Naramata Road junction on the way to the Campbell Mountain landfill.

Eyewitness Kyle Hodgson thought history was repeating for him when he spotted the column of smoke from the fire as he was driving away from the landfill and found a line of cars blocking him from proceeding. After being trapped by the massive Rock Creek fire last summer, he worried he was going to be trapped again when he proceeded on foot and found the truck, engulfed in flames which were spreading into the forest beside the road.

The fire had spread into brush at the side of the road and was speeding up the side of the forested hill but crews were able to extinguish it before it became established.
