Visible smoke, flame from abandoned building quickly doused in Kelowna

The fire started around 7:40 a.m.

Visible smoke and flame could be seen from an abandoned building on Harvey Avenue Friday morning.

Around 7:40 a.m. on Dec. 1, the Kelowna Fire Department received reports of visible smoke and flame coming from an abandoned commercial building at 1890 Harvey Avenue, behind the Chevron gas station.

It’s believed people experiencing homelessness were in the building but no one was injured and the blaze was quickly put out.

The fire department, emergency services, and the RCMP all attended the scene.

Harvey Avenue southbound is briefly down to one lane at the scene, just south of the Spall Road intersection.
