To the chagrin of some, Corcelettes Winery is now home to seven unique chairs created by local artists and auctioned off at the Cawston Hall Cabin Fever Ball.

Bidding for the chairs was feverish Saturday night and Barbara Baessler from Corcelettes Winery was on top of things as time ticked down to 10 p.m.

The chair auction has become a beloved part of the annual Cawston Hall Cabin Fever Ball. Old chairs once used by the hall are transformed by local artists into unique pieces of work.

In the end Baessler walked away with seven chairs from local artists including works from Lauren Hamilton, Delores Suek, Lisa Zsinden, Debbie Rombough, Barb Hoffer, Joan Laserich and Gabrielle Villencourt. She paid $415 total for the chairs.

“We like to have local work at the winery and we need chairs so it was an opportunity to purchase them,” Baessler said.

Baessler noted a lot of times people buy the works of art and then they sit at their homes and not everyone gets a chance to see them again.

“This way people can come out and see them at Corcelettes,” she said.

Baessler herself even painted a chair for the auction.

She said the Cawston Hall is important to the community and to her and her family who often attend dances and other functions at the hall.

“We find our friends here and the music and the fun time and it’s a sort of gathering place,” she said, adding, “Life happens here.”

The Cawston Community Hall raised $1,361 with the chair silent auction and other money was raised through the raffle, ticket sales and bar.

The artists who created works were: Dolores Suek, Lisa Zsinden, Wendy Provins, Debbie Rombough, Jean Wormell, Olivia Awad, Barb Hoffer, Shannon Lyon, Jon Kittleson, Elaine Stewart, Jennifer Wollman, Della Barrett, Joan Laserich, Dave Brewin, Tom Sexauer, Al Terbasket, Barbara Bessler, Lorren Hamilton, Emily Hogan.

Don and Anna Greenhouses who donated the chair that Dave Brewin painted. Also a big thank you to all the people who bought the chairs.
