A Vernon woman is dead after being ejected from a motorcycle and run over on Highway 97 at Vaseux Lake on Wednesday evening.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said RCMP received a report of motorcycle losing control in a hairpin curve around 7:05 p.m. just south of Okanagan Falls. Traffic investigators confirmed that the husband and wife on the Harley Davidson motorcycle were northbound when the operator lost control when negotiating the hairpin turn, ejecting both riders of the bike into the oncoming traffic. Both riders were then run over by a southbound 2004 Ford Explorer.

The 52-year-old Vernon woman was killed and her 60-year-old husband received moderate injuries and was taken to hospital.

RCMP traffic investigators are continuing their investigation into the crash, with the preliminary determination that speed was a contributing factor. The portion of highway in question is in a 80 km/h zone with a posted 40 km/h cautionary speed advisory sign at the curve.
