Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 59(2) of the Community Charter that the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Board of Directors will be considering the implementation of a new Business Licence Regulations Bylaw No. 3100, 2025, at a forthcoming meeting.
Copies of the proposed bylaw and related documents are available on the Regional District’s website: www.rdos.bc.ca (Property & Development → Planning, Zoning & Subdivision → Strategic Projects→ Other Projects→ Vacation Rental Review→ Business Licence Regulations Bylaw), or at the Regional District office.
The proposed Business Licence Regulations Bylaw No. 3100, 2025, will be applied to “short-term rental accommodations” (STR).
If adopted, the bylaw will require, amongst other things, that operators of short-term rental accommodations meet the following in order to obtain a licence:
- compliance with the provincial principal residence requirement (as required);
- provision of adequate off-street vehicle parking;
- completion of a Health and Safety Inspection; and
- provision of a fire evacuation plan for the dwelling.
It is further proposed that an annual fee of $500.00 be applied to an STR business licence and that fines related to unauthorized activities involving short-term rental accommodation uses under the Regional District’s Municipal Ticketing Information Bylaw be introduced and set at $3,000.00.
Persons who consider that they are affected by the proposed Business Licence Regulations Bylaw No. 3100, 2025, are encouraged to submit written representations to the Regional District by 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 21, 2025, in the following ways:
- mail or delivered to the Regional District office at 101 Martin Street, Penticton, BC, V2A-5J9; or
- by email to planning@rdos.bc.ca.
Written comments received by the Regional District by the deadline will be considered by the Regional District Board prior to first reading of Business Licence Regulations Bylaw No. 3100, 2025, at a forthcoming meeting (date to be determined).
