Alexander  Mathewson (Scotty)

July 20, 1923 - September 18, 2017

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Alex Mathewson on September 18, 2017 surrounded by his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Predeceased by his wife Anne March 28, 2005.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Monica (Ted) Fantin, Trail, BC. Son Bruce (Valerie) Mathewson, Penticton, BC. Two grandsons; Darrell (Sue) Fantin, Rossland, BC, Todd (Kay) Fantin, Snohomish, WA. Four cherished great grandchildren; Jake, Samantha, Lucas and Nicholas.

As well as his wonderful, caring and loving best friend Florence MacArthur. Nieces, nephews and many friends. Alex also had five brothers and four sisters. 

Alex was born in Kitscoty, AB and raised in Ponoka, AB. After serving in the Canadian Army for five years during WWII, he returned and met his loving wife Anne in Lethbridge, AB. They lived in Trail, BC for many years, managed the Texaco station, moved to Kamloops, BC where he started his career with Dairyland.

In 1977 they moved to Penticton, BC, where he became Supervisor of Dairyland Foods until his retirement, where he loved life in Penticton ever since, he was known as the Milkman and had many loyal customers.

Alex was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, always on the go and was never without a smile or a laugh. He met daily at the mall with his coffee group and the guys were never at a loss for words, solving local, national and even worldwide problems.

Alex also played Bocci on Thursdays with other close friends, known as the Bocci crew.

Our family wishes to thank the wonderful Homecare staff who helped us take care of Alex at home where he wanted to be. The nurses at Penticton Regional Hospital and his doctors;  Dr. McIntosh and Dr. Leitner.

A Memorial service will be held at The Royal Canadian Legion in Penticton, BC October 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations of your choice can be made either to Penticton Regional Hospital or Hospice House in Penticton, BC.

Private internment to take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
