Alphons Witteman

1941-2022  ~  Alphons Witteman passed away at home with his loving wife by his side on Friday July 22, at the age of 80 1/2 from a sudden heart attack following complications of heart disease and a recent car accident. He lived 35 years longer thanks to medical intervention and for those gifted years we are profoundly grateful.
Alphons is survived by his loving family: his wife of 55 years Nel, their daughters Marjolein (Dave) and Annette (Michael) and grandchildren Colette, Deanna, Jasper and Grace.
In the Netherlands he was predeceased by his brothers Louis (Els) and Martin (Nel) and sister Hannie, and leaves behind two sisters Ineke and Laura.
He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends in the Netherlands and by his friends and neighbours in the South Okanagan where he and his family immigrated to in 1978.
Alphons will be remembered for his twinkly blue eyes, his happy smile, his outgoing attitude and zest for life. He and his wife Nel were never shy to be the first ones out on the dance floor to get the party going. He played piano by ear like Liberace and had a flair for improvisation.
From a career in sales in Europe to orcharding in Kaleden, building homes and selling real estate, owning a cafe and finally owning The Lloyd Gallery, Alphons, always with Nel by his side, was driven to succeed.
He didn't mind the hard work to make dreams become reality even when faced with adversity. He loved visiting the artists in their studios and working with art collectors over 35 years. In his retirement years he was very fond of the good life in his flower garden watching the birds and bees, and cooking delicious soups.
In lieu of flowers, please give someone some great encouragement, do a good deed, donate money to your own favourite and deserving good cause.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 4 to 7pm on Tuesday, September 6 at Linden Gardens in Kaleden.
