Catherine Anne Moncrieff

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Catherine Anne Moncrieff, 65, on January 5th, 2023, in Penticton. Catherine was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and community member. After a courageous fight against cancer for over 30 years, Catherine passed away peacefully with her daughters, Lianna (Shawn) and Sarah (Tyler), by her side. Catherine is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Maisie, Rowan, and Hudson; sister, Linda of Ottawa; nephews, Jon, Michael and Dan; and a large community of extended family and close friends.
Catherine was born to the late Susan and Al Moncrieff, in Ottawa, Ontario on August 29th, 1957. She graduated from Gloucester High and after pursuing travel adventures, she arrived in Calgary, Alberta, where she studied photography and journalism at SAIT University. In 1982, Catherine made a home in Penticton, B.C. where she and Bob raised their girls, Lianna and Sarah.
As an Education Assistant with SD67, Catherine derived great joy from her work with children. Her compassion, creativity, and humour made an impact on students and colleagues alike. She continued to spread cheer as a member of the Meadowlark Nature Festival and as a volunteer at Penticton Hospice, where she played guitar for patients.
Music and art were integral to Catherine's life. A talented musician, she enjoyed the piano and played with local guitar circles and Irish music groups, and was even known to dabble on the harmonica - her cat Nemo's favourite instrument. She loved painting and drawing, and in recent years she took up the pen to explore her poetic side. Catherine loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren who adored their goofy grandma.
Catherine leaves a legacy of laughter, music, and love; she will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure to know her.
In her honour, a celebration of life will be held on May 13th at 3:00 p.m., at Linden Gardens in Kaleden.
