Catherine (Kay) Elizabeth
February 9th, 1926 – December 17th, 2016
On the evening of December 17, Catherine (Kay) passed away at the Haven Hill Retirement Centre in Penticton, BC. With her hands held by her sister and children, she left us peacefully while surrounded by many of her loving family.
Kay is survived by her beloved sister Julie McPhee, daughter Frances Mugridge (Dan), son Norman Metcalf (Patty), her seven magnificent grandchildren Jeff, Kelly, Ryanne, Paul, Steven, Leah, and Daniel and five great grandchildren, Aidan, Easton, Kate, Julia and Holly. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews and other extended family members whom she loved dearly.
Kay was born in Merville, BC, eldest daughter of Sydney and Catherine Smith. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Metcalf, her brother, Albert Smith, and her sister, Isabelle Vass. She grew up in Comox, BC, where she met her husband of 67 years. Kay and Frank moved to Penticton in 1948 where they raised their two children Frances and Norman.
Kay was the heart of our family. Her unconditional love left a profound impact on all those who were lucky enough to spend time with her. She lived her life with a gentle grace, humble intuition, and sharp sense of humour. We are all deeply grateful to have had this magnetic woman in our lives.
The wonderful care Kay received from the staff at Haven Hill deserves mention. Special recognition must be given to the Cherry II unit. Our family thanks them for their time and dedication.
A memorial service will be held at the
Everden Rust Funeral Home, at 1130 Carmi Avenue, Penticton, BC, on
Saturday, January 7th at 12 noon.
