It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Derek Greef at the age of 60 after a courageous two year battle with cancer.
Always remembered and sadly missed by his devoted mother Maria; children Megan(Joel), Sarah, Tony(Vanessa) and Brett; granddaughters Olivia, Myra and Arabelle; grandson Jeremy; sisters Dolores(David), Sandra(Jeff), Debbie(Andy); brothers Lindsay and Gordon(Mandy); as well as many nieces and nephews; lifelong friends Derek Wilson, Rick Lott, Jamie Cade and Harry Elias.
Derek was predeceased by his father Dennis and his brothers Peter and Tony.
Derek was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Upon arriving in B.C. as a teenager, he attended and graduated from Centennial Secondary. He then went on to be a very successful Mechanic for 25 years, and recently worked in renovations as Derek could build or repair anything.
Derek was always positive and resilient in the face of adversity. He lived an active and vibrant life and his passion was sailing with his family and friends on the Okanagan lake in his 27 foot sailboat "Euphoria".
He also loved his vacations in Cuba and could share stories like no other. He loved his family with all his heart.
Son, father, brother and friend; we will remember you now and forever not with a tear, but rather with a smile and gratefulness that we were able to share a part of your glorious 60 years. We love you so much Derek!
Derek passed away peacefully at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton, B.C. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Dr. Izak J. Van der Westhuizen of the White Clinic for his kind and caring way with Derek.
A celebration of Life for Derek will be held at a later date. Donations to Moog and Friends Hospice would be appreciated.
