January 1, 1943 - July 2, 2020
With great sadness the Family is formally announcing the peaceful passing of Donald Lawrence Pacaluko on July 2, 2020 at the age of 77.
He was predeceased by only son Ryan Donald Pacaluiko, his parents Anne and Alec Pacaluiko and his in-laws Helen and Rudy Peterson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary Anne Pacaluko (nee Peterson), daughters Shannon Hallson (partner Wayne Rowland) and Treena Pacaluiko, granddaughters Krystylyn, Haylee, Alyssa and Kailyn, sister Judy (Jim Tarte), sisters-in-law Patricia (deceased October 22, 2020) (Roger McNeil), Carolyn (Mike Mead), Roberta (John Fitzgerald), Barbara (Dave Zeck) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends across Canada.
Don was born and raised on a farm not far from Winnipeg, MB. He met Mary at the German Club in Winnipeg in 1966. There was a dance - she saw him from across the room, he came over and asked her to dance and "the rest is history!" says Mary. They married October 21, 1967.
Don's job at BMO had them relocating to several small towns in Manitoba where along the way his 2 daughters were born - Shannon in 1968 and Treena in 1969. A few years later they were relocated to Regina, SK and along came son Ryan in 1974. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1975, Don quit the bank and settled on a career with
Winnipeg Transit.
After 25 years he retired then drove school bus for a couple more years. When the kids were young they would pack up them and the dogs and go on a 2-week trip almost every year. Weekends were spent camping and fishing or in Beausejour, MB where his parents lived. Once the kids were out of the house they started travelling the world, visiting Mexico, Cuba, Bali, Portugal, Alaska to name a few.
They moved to Penticton, BC in 2010 and their best friends, Lynne and Ken Earl, moved out here the following year. In 2015 Mary suffered a debilitating stroke and after she was out of hospital Don became her primary caregiver. That would not have been possible if not for the tireless, steadfast companionship and assistance of Lynne and Ken. We are all forever grateful that these 2 people are a part of our lives.
A private family interment has taken place on Saturday August 14th, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery overlooking Penticton and beautiful Okanagan Lake. Flowers are gratefully declined. Don donated to many charities and your donation to a charity of your choice is encouraged.
