Dorothy (Dot) Burnside

August 21, 2017

Nov. 30, 1916 - Aug. 21, 2017

Dot passed away peacefully in her 101st year at the Westview S. Extended Care Unit just as the Solar Eclipse ended on Aug. 21, 2017. She was born in Winnipeg to Clifford & Ellen (Peterson) MacLeod and married George Burnside on Jan. 1, 1941 in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband on Sept. 3, 1943 (R.C.A.F.), her sisters Margret Michie & Jean Armstrong & long time partner Valentine Thair. She is survived by her niece Joan Wickett & nephew Tommy Armstrong and is fondly remembered by grandniece Rebecca Wickett and grandnephews Ross Wickett, Norm Wickett & Christopher Armstrong. After high school Dot found work as an offce manager in San Francisco & Vancouver before retiring to the Okanagan. She will be remembered for her quick sharp wit, generosity, and as a world traveler. Dot played many sports; she competed in tennis & Badminton well into her 80’s, won multiple gold medals in the B.C. Senior Games, & participated in the Canada Senior Games. Dot never liked having her picture taken so one is not included here. We would like to thank the staff of Westview S. & Dr. R. Tatham for their exceptional love and care during her last years. There will be no public service & in lieu of flowers a donation to the Penticton Hospital Building Fund can be made if you wish.
