Dorothy Joan Alward

November 18, 1924 - September 19, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Alward at the age of 92.

Joan is survived by loving husband of 69 years Byron and their 5 children: Jack, Barb Monroe (Norm), Carol Cleveland (Greg), Jim and Doug; and her grandchildren Maizie/Melanie, Mick/Marty, Jim/Brent and 15 great grandchildren.

Dorothy Joan Alward (nee Allen) was born and raised in Penticton. She was honored to be chosen as a May Queen Princess in 1940.

She married Byron on Valentine's Day 1948 in White Rock, went on to raise a loving, active family in Port Coquitlam and retired in Penticton.

Joan was a devoted wife and mother, supported our pursuits and lovingly cheered us on.

She was always a first class grandmother. A strong family person, she enjoyed family time whether it was camping, walking, baking, dancing or playing cards.

Dearly loved by family and friends, Joan will be greatly missed. Her kindness, concern, gentle manner and positive attitude will always remain with us.

Many Penticton residents will remember Joan as the passenger on Byron's electric cart during their scenic rides along the Ska ha and Okanagan beachfronts.

Thank you to the staff at the Village by the Station Day Program, Dr. Harries and the caring staff at Penticton regional hospital during her final days.

No service by request.
