In loving memory ~
Eva Maria Gede passed away at Trinity Care Centre in Penticton, British Columbia on March 14, 2025.
Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1941, Eva emigrated to South Africa after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. In Johannesburg, she learned English, finished high school, and paid her way through medical school at the University of Witwatersrand by playing the piano in a hotel lounge. Eva moved to Canada in 1971 to complete her psychiatry residency at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. While there, she met Horst Reinhard Lange at the local Germania Club. They married and had two children: Andrea and Nicholas. In 2000, Eva and Horst semi-retired to the Okanagan Valley, where Eva continued her psychiatry practice in Penticton. She loved the landscape that reminded her of South Africa, and Horst enjoyed fishing and boating on the lakes.
Eva is survived and dearly missed by her husband of 51 years Horst Lange, her daughter Andrea Gede-Lange, and her son Nick Gede-Lange. She will be remembered for her strength, her sense of humour, her feisty personality, her passion for the arts, and her love and affection for her family.
In lieu of other tributes, please consider making a donation in Eva's memory to the Red Cross or to a performing arts organization of your choice.
