Geraldine (Geri) V. Somers (nee Dolphin)

April 2, 1918 - July 5, 2016

Remembering our loved ones who we miss dearly.

Claude was born in Cache Bay, Ontario and was from a blended family, but when he married Geri, her loving family became his. Dad played hockey in his youth and was in the Armed Forces during the Second World War. He worked as a mechanic at Hayes Manufacturing for many years in Vancouver. He loved his garden and produced many lovely flowers, vegetables and his famous raspberries. Claude was a quiet man, observing more than talking, but he had a great sense of humour. He will be remembered for his woodworking, humming and whistling.

Geri was the 6th of 11 children born to the family of J.R. Dolphin of Meacham, Saskatchewan. She always considered "The Farm" home and was very close to her brothers and sisters. Mom was very proud to be 98 years old. She was a kind, caring, amazing and encouraging lady loved by all who knew her. She loved baking, knitting, canning, helping others and loving and guiding her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be kind and loving individuals.

Claude and Geri were married July 1, 1941 and moved to Vancouver in 1954, then to Penticton in 1993. They were married 66 years’ worth of supporting and protecting each other and holding hands to guide one other. Dad had a hearing problem and Mom was visually impaired so they made a great team helping each other navigate throughout their lives. They loved their walks on Skaha Beach and swinging on their glider swing in their backyard listening to the birds.

Mom and Dad will be remembered and sadly missed by son Jack Somers and daughter Jill (pre-deceased son-in-law George) Weir both of Penticton; grandchildren Julie (Jack) Yu, Ian Somers, Graham (Michelle) Somers, Cara (Mike) Sutherland, Travis (Julia) Weir; great-grandchildren Braeden and Naiya Yu, Layla Somers, Hudson and Mila Sutherland and Kaleb, Saige and Olivia Weir. As well as Linda, Bob, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Thank you to the staff at Haven Hill (Lower Peach) for loving and caring for Mom this past 1 1/2 years
