April 8, 1936 - July 24, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John McLeod "Jack" Killough. He died peacefully in his sleep on July 24, 2021 at the Moog & Friends Hospice in Penticton, BC.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Killough, his son, William John Killough "Bo" Baker, his daughter, Mary Ellen Killough "Mazy" Baker, stepsons Julian Thacker (Lorie), Simon Thacker (Debra), Richard Thacker, and grandchildren Sam Baker, Felix Thacker, Madeleine Thacker, Jaya Sequeira Thacker and many nieces and nephews and his loving siblings June Kavaloff (Paul), Joseph Killough (Anita), Michael Killough (Ninie) and Heather Snauwaert (Joel).
Jack was born in Kinnaird, BC on April 8, 1936 and grew up in Castlegar where, after high school, he taught at Castlegar Elementary school. He moved to Vancouver where he earned a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of British Columbia.
During that time, he met, married, and started a family with his first wife, Barbara Baker. In 1971, Jack moved to Penticton, BC where he had a rewarding career as a well-respected and well-loved teacher at both McNicoll Park Middle School and Penticton High School.
In 1988 he earned a master's degree in education from Gonzaga University in Spokane. Jack had a keen interest in history, literature, and art, and was well known for his sense of humor and word plays that were loved by all, well, almost all.
In Penticton he met Julia and together they made a wonderful life in a beautiful home in Kaleden, BC. In 2016 they relocated to the Red Wing Resorts in Penticton, where Jack's beaver-like obsession with trimming trees was challenged only by the limited number of trees on the property.
He will be sorely missed.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
We wish to thank the Moog & Friends Hospice who made his last days comfortable & pleasant. We would also like to thank the outstanding care offered by so many in the medical community.
