February 21, 1927 - September 30, 2018
With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandfather and great grandfather, "Cactus Jack" Ings on September 30, 2018 at the age of 92. He will be dearly missed by his children, Pam (Ken), Tracy (Tom), Jacki (Brad) and Brad (Colleen); grandchildren, Krista, Aaron, Ashley, Tyler, Courtney and Eddie as well as his four great grandkids, Zayden, Ahsoka, Jack and Benjamin.
Dad was born on a farm in Waskada, Manitoba on Feb. 22, 1927, the 5th of 7 children. His career in the telecommunications industry took him across western Canada before settling in Penticton with O.K. Tel in 1964 until his retirement with BC Tel in 1992. Dad was very involved with the Glengarry Figure Skating Club in the 1970's and 80's as president of the club, head prop maker for the carnivals, as well as becoming a high test judge with the CFSA. He had a great wit and loved to tell of his escapades from the "Dew Drop Gang" on the streets of Winnipeg to waking up in a cactus patch during an excursion to the Omak Stampede on his Harley. He loved to make people laugh and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. An expert craftsman, he could build anything from houses to rocking horses for his grandchildren. Dad lived life to the fullest and made many friends wherever he went.
He spent the last 8 years at Haven Hill where once again he endeared himself to everyone from the cleaning staff to the care aides, many of whom went that extra mile to make his days a little brighter. For this we are very grateful. "Cactus" you will be loved and missed forever in our minds and hearts.
