It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Brettl, who passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024, at the age of 96. Joe was born in Mor, Hungary, on March 15, 1928, and immigrated to Canada in 1956, where he went on to make a life in Penticton, British Columbia.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Brettl, and sons Robert and Stephen Brettl and his son in law Greg Greenslade. Joe is survived by his daughter Christina Greenslade, his granddaughters Lisa Merrick and Ashleigh Grover, and his great-granddaughter Olive Merrick.
Joe was a dedicated and hardworking man, spending many years working for the City of Penticton and also owning his own orchard in Naramata. He was well known in the community for his love of hunting, his talent for making Hungarian sausages, and his warm, social nature. Joe was often seen enjoying coffee chats with friends and neighbors, always ready for a friendly conversation and a good laugh.
His presence will be missed by many, but his legacy of hard work, kindness, and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Village of the Station in Penticton, Good Samaritans Society., A celebration of life will be held in the summer with a date to come.
