Hubbard, Vieno Katrine

Vieno Katrine Hubbard passed away peacefully in Penticton, B.C. on May 12, 2017. Vieno was born on September 5, 1936 in South Gillies, Ontario to the late Matti and Lydia Ponka. Corene as she was known to family and friends will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Ronald “Andy” Anderson.

Corene led a fascinating life working in a variety of businesses. She excelled as a bookkeeper, hotel manager and store manager among her many jobs that are too numerous to mention. Corene always supported and encouraged those around her in their endeavours. Corene had an indiscriminate acceptance of others both spiritually and culturally. This support and open-mindedness led to many rewarding experiences.

Corene excelled most however as Aiti and is survived by her children with the late James Frederick Hubbard, Bruce (Krista), Gail (Rob), Jamie (Kelly), Will (Sue), & Kitty (Rob); Nieces Kathrina (Phil) & Toni; Andy’s children Dale (Angie), Steve (Cheryl), & Cathy; Grand-Children James (Natalie), Matthew (Tara), David (Julianne), Josh, Nolan, Alex, Sara, Liam, Sam, William & Noah; Great Grand-Children Riley, Dominic, Maxwell, Bennet & Mason.

She will be missed by her siblings Gertrude, Violet, & Aimo and is predeceased by her siblings, Edna, Arthur, Melvin, Sonja, Richard & Elizabeth.

Corene was very social. This led to many close friendships throughout the years. Corene was comforted with these memories. These friendships are too numerous to mention but memories of Heli & Tauno, Vi & Ron, Bill & Joan, Reg & Ollie, Kathrina & Phil, Toni, Pat & John, Paul, O’Della, Marg, Maureen, Sue, Cathy, Don & Shirley, and Kim gave Corene a feeling of being blessed and fortunate.

Corene although a Gypsy at heart loved how British Columbia reminded her of her Thunder Bay roots and became quite settled in her home in Penticton. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services for Corene will take place in Penticton, B.C. at Saint Saviour’s Anglican Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19th and in Iroquois, ON at a later date.
