August 2, 1941 - July 15, 2018
Maria passed away peacefully on July 15, 2018 in Penticton, B.C. at the age of 76. She was born on August 2, 1941 in Silvares, Portugal.
Maria is survived by her husband, Joe Gomes, her daughters, Ilda (Bill), Elizabeth (Ray), grandchildren Bill, Brian, Michael, Stephanie, Megan, Becca, Carter, great-grandchild Will, her brother, Roger (Salete), as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Portugal. She is predeceased by her parents, Alberto and Maria de Jesus Ramos and her brother Joaquim Ramos.
Maria and Joe immigrated to Winnipeg, MB in 1968 with their eldest daughter Ilda. She worked as a seamstress for a few years and after Elizabeth was born a few years later, the family moved to Summerland, B.C to pursue the orchard business.
In 1992, Maria and Joe semi-retired in Penticton. She joined the Portuguese Club Senior Choir and volunteered in the Portuguese Club's kitchen for over ten years. Maria also enjoyed volunteering for several years with St.Vincent De Paul and taking care of her grandchildren.
She was talented in knitting, sewing and crocheting. Maria was always a wonderful cook and as a loving wife, mother and grandmother, nothing brought her more joy than to cook for her family.
Maria's family would like to thank Dr. D.Kilian and the staff at Trinity Care Centre for their excellent care and support.
A Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 7:30 pm and a Funeral Mass on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 am, St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1296 Main Street, Penticton, followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria's name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
