Mary Laurette Rita
On September 2, 2017 Mary Laurette Rita Demontigny (nee Brisebois), 89 years, passed away surrounded by family. Predeceased by her husband Laurent and her son Michael, Rita is survived by children Paul (Denise), Richard (Pam), Danny (Sue), Felix (Claudette), Michelle (John) Carboni, and former daughters-in-law Lorraine and Laurie. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who miss her playful spirit and attentive guidance.
Rita was born December 7, 1927 on a farm near Meyronne, SK to Ernest and Yvonne Brisebois. She was the 3rd oldest of 8, in a loving devout family. She spoke fondly of her childhood. Rita graduated from Jesus Marie Convent in Gravelbourg. She attended the Moose Jaw Normal School in 1945 and taught in southern Saskatchewan. Rita married the great love of her life, Laurent, August 3, 1949 in Gravelbourg on a runaway weekend. They were happily married 43 years until Larry’s passing. Raising their family in a Catholic French Canadian culture was important to them. Despite multiple relocations for work, they became valued community members and made good friends wherever they lived. Rita was an active faithful member of St. Ann’s Parish and the CWL. She volunteered for Soupateria and the bandage wrapping group. A creative and artistic woman, she enjoyed golf, bridge & hardanger. Rita was an integral thread in a rich and beautiful tapestry of family and friends. She knew her own mind and generously shared it. Prayers 7:00 pm Friday, Sept. 8, Funeral mass 10:30 am Saturday, Sept. 9, both at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church 1296 Main St. Penticton, BC. Rita’s ashes will be interred beside her husband’s in Ponteix, SK at a later date. The family expresses it’s heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Leona Harries and Dr. Nicole Schneider; and to the gracious staff at Moog & Friends Hospice House for their support and kindness.
