In loving memory ~
With both sadness and joy, Menno's children announce the peaceful passing of their father into the presence of his Lord and Saviour from his care home in Penticton. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his six children, Wendy (Gary) Kroening, Robert (Violet) Unger, Joanne (Marty) Wisla, Joy (Alan) O'Brien, Marge (Al) Johnson, James Unger, his many grand and great grandchildren, and many friends and extended family.
Menno was born in the small community of Provost, Alberta, with three older and three younger brothers. His parents relocated the family to the small Mennonite community of Yarrow, B.C. where he met and married his wife Frieda of 64 years. After years of truck driving to provide for his family, Menno decided to go back to school to study business. He relocated his family to Kamloops in 1973, when he bought an interior decorating business called Flor-Lay Services.
Although Menno and Frieda enjoyed their family life and church community in Kamloops, their business fell on hard times and in 1978 they made a difficult decision. They would relocate to the thriving town of Hinton, Alberta so they could pay their debt in full owed to suppliers. In faith, with hard work, and Frieda by his side, their business flourished and grew into the surrounding areas; Menno especially enjoyed his work days in beautiful Jasper. Menno and Frieda also became very involved in the church community.
They loved to socialize; their home was always open to anyone needing some fellowship or a warm meal, and together they hosted a weekly, community bible study. When Menno turned 65, he sold their business and he and Freida returned to B.C. to retire. Until they were no longer able, their retirement was spent serving locally and internationally with Mennonite Disaster Services and with the Gleaners. Menno sadly lost the love of his life in 2017. Ever since, Menno has looked forward to going to his eternal home.
There will be a family gathering this summer to honor Menno's life.
