On October 21st, 2018, Mrs. Hettie Maude Corps (nee Youngman) passed away peacefully in Penticton BC at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her parents Reverend William A. Youngman and Maude Youngman (nee Wood), and husband Reverend James A. Corps.
Hettie will be fondly remembered by her loving family including sons Peter, Stephen and Michael, her grandchildren Alexander, Sarah, Michael Thomas, Joshua and Olivia, Sister-in-laws Margaret Corps, Hannah Corps, Cousin Ted Flaxman and families, including nephews and nieces and friends.
Hettie was born in Vancouver, BC in 1924 and attended St. Anthony's Convent School until moving with her parents to England in 1936. She spent the early part of the war years in Scotland, returning to England to work in a radio tube factory towards the end of the war.
Having wed James (Jim) April 26th, 1947 at Holy Trinity Lamorbey (Sidcup), Hettie & Jim immigrated to Canada and settled in Vancouver on Triumph Street where Hettie worked at The Hudson's Bay in downtown Vancouver in the china department until Peter was born in 1954, by which time Mom and Dad had moved to Lawson Ave in West Vancouver. Son Stephen arrived in 1957 and son Michael in 1961. Hettie was the classic stay at home mom until the youngest entered high school at which time she returned to the work force, first as a nurse's aide at Altamont Private Hospital then as a podiatrist's assistance at Clyde Ave Medical Centre with Dr. Wagner.
Hettie (and Jim) were very involved with the church, first at St James in Vancouver, then St Clements church in North Vancouver, St Monica's in Horseshoe Bay West Vancouver, The Parish of St Peters & St Paul Traditional Anglican Church in Burnaby and Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist in Victoria.
Upon retirement, Hettie and Jim retired to Saltair on Vancouver Island where Jim studied theology and was ordained a priest in the Anglican Catholic Church. Hettie continued serving with the alter guild and maintaining their home in Saltair.
After Dad passed away in 2011, Hettie moved to Penticton which was closer to two of her sons.
