It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Leaman Chase. Lee was born on March 14, 1936 in Sackville, N.B. to Ralph Chase and Maizie Steeves (nee Hicks). His mother remarried in 1948, to Herman Steeves. Lee joined the RCAF in 1955. He was stationed in Oxnard, California and Rockcliffe, Ontario before heading to Metz, France where he married Wilma June Niven on August 20, 1960. Throughout his career they were stationed in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Labrador, Colorado and their final posting in Victoria, B.C. He left the military in 1977 as a Warrant Officer, and worked for the Federal Government until retiring in 1988. Lee and Wilma moved to Penticton, B.C. in 1991.
Lee is survived by his wife Wilma, daughter Sharon (Jack Reems) and son Steven (Darlene). His 5 grandchildren: Steven Reems (Chantel), Jessica Gair (JR), Shawn Reems (Ariel), Alec Chase and Lauren Chase. He also has 6 great-grandchildren. Lee is predeceased by his sister Jackie Penney, brothers-in-law: Omer Gauthier, Joe Penney, Barry Bray, Frank and Peter Niven. He is survived by his brother Art, sisters-in-law: Mary Chase, Sharon Gauthier, Seiko, June and Donna Niven and by his brother-in-law Jim Niven. He is also an uncle to 19 nieces and nephews.
Lee loved his wife with all his heart, and was very proud of their family. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, camping and travelling. He was a member of the Penticton Legion, the Elks Lodge and the Army Navy and Airforce Veterans. Lee was very social, funny, thoroughly cherished being Granpy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and liked to entertain friends at their home.
