January 8, 1922 - November 24, 2021
Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 24th, 2021.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Anders) and David, her grandchildren Peter and Daniel, her brother Ron (Nina), her sister-in-law Jean and her extended family.
She was predeceased by her husband John in 2012, her brothers Bill and Bob, and her parents Robert and Bertha Smith.
Rena was born in Chapleau, Ontario in 1922 and grew up in North Bay, where many of her relatives still live. She graduated from the University of Toronto where she studied Household Science.
She was a veteran after her service in Vancouver during the 2nd World War. After marrying John in 1956 in Toronto, their first home was in Kingston, Ontario where Sheila was born. After a year in Manchester, they moved to Penticton in 1959 and then David was born in 1960.
Since then, they have lived in the same home in Penticton except for a year in Sweden in 1972, where Sheila found Anders, her husband to be. She worked for many years as a dietician, her last position being with the Penticton Regional Hospital.
She loved classical music, books, flowers, and beautiful objects. She loved travelling, was a great cook and an ever-loyal friend. She was always trying to help. She will always be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Elizabeth Watters and all the people who provided care for Rena in her home. She died trying to reach her goal, to live to 100 while staying at home, and then have a big birthday party to celebrate.
A Celebration of Life will be held on her 100th birthday, Saturday January 8th, 2022 at 11 am at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1130 Carmi Avenue, in Penticton. A light birthday lunch will be provided after the celebration. BYOB (bring your own balloons)!
For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed. For those planning to attend, please have proof of vaccination available.
