September 30, 1941 - February 11, 2022
Mel passed away peacefully in Penticton on February 11, 2022, at the age of 80. He was born on September 30, 1941, at Port Colborne, Ontario.
He is survived by his caring, loving and compassionate wife of 56 years, Charlette Louise; son Paul Knoll; daughter Deborah Bownes (Rick); sisters, Doris Schaeffer (Norman), Donna Schultz (Lorne), Linda Lindgard (John) and brother Raymond Knoll.
Sadly, predeceased by son Mark.
Always the joy of his life were his six grandchildren, Lucas, Tristan, Elijah, Abigail, Rachel and Sola.
After graduating from Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri where he received his Masters of Divinity Degree in 1967, he began his ministry serving St. John's Lutheran Church in Summerland and Concordia Lutheran Church in Penticton. After serving the two congregations for 10 years, both congregations built new churches.
Due to the growth of both congregations the parish was split and Pastor Knoll remained with the Concordia congregation in Penticton and St. John's in Summerland called another Pastor.
Pastor Knoll remained with Concordia until his retirement in 2004 after serving the congregation for 38 years. A funeral service was held for the family on February 19 with Pastor Michael Schutz of Concordia Lutheran Church officiating. Throughout his life Pastor Mel was a leader, mentor and friend to so many, both personally and professionally.
Should members and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran School.
