DUNCAN

Sandy (Alexander)

It is with great sadness that the family of Sandy Duncan announces his passing, on January 10, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Penticton in 1962, Sandy resided in Penticton all his life. He was well known for his highland bagpiping. At an early age Sandy demonstrated an aptitude for music. Starting with the piano, he soon discovered his true musical love, the highland bagpipe which he played for the rest of his life. Throughout his youth he piped competitively in the interior and coastal regions of the province and was a long-standing member of the Penticton Pipe Band before he became an independent piper. You might also remember him from Winter’s Office Supply where he worked for 23 years as a sales rep from Summerland to Grand Forks. Eventually he found he wanted to try his hand in construction and spent the last 10 years as a labourer with numerous companies, loving every minute of the hard work. He was just about to embark on a new career in water management when he was diagnosed and was very disappointed he couldn’t continue. Sandy is survived by his loving wife Vicki, daughter Ceiligh Tummon (Chad), son James Duncan, granddaughter Jacquelin Tummon, mother Jean Duncan, brother Rob Duncan (Marguerite), parents-in-law Janice & Barry Ashley and sister-in-law Syndi Marcolin (Clark) and numerous other family members. Sandy is predeceased by his father Howard Duncan. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Penticton Palliative team, especially Carrie & Liza, for the wonderful care he received, as well as the many friends that stopped by to give support and encouragement to Sandy during his difficult journey. A Celebration of Sandy’s life will take place at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Penticton United Church (696 Main St.) with refreshments and sharing of stories to follow downstairs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to Moog & Friends Hospice House. Your memories and stories can be shared at www.everdenrust.com
