Wright, Violet

Feb 1, 1918 – April 18, 2017

Today we celebrate the life of Violet who lived to the age of 99. She was born in Saskatchewan where she lived with her parents and 4 siblings. The family moved to Greenwood but Vi remained in Saskatchewan with her husband and baby daughter Elaine. Shortly after Elaine’s birth, Vi’s mother passed away and the family moved to Greenwood so Vi could help raise her siblings. Later, Vi and Elaine moved to Oliver where she lived most of her life. She worked for many years at the local café and later at Stedman’s Variety Store. She married Tommy Wright in 1958 and together they enjoyed hunting, fishing and time at the family cabin at Beaver Lake. Vi was an accomplished seamstress and made delicious apple pie. Following Tommy’s death in 2008, Vi moved to Penticton to be closer to family. She enjoyed volunteering at the retirement centre and never passed up Sunday morning breakfast with the breakfast club especially if it involved pancakes, strawberries and whip cream. Vi was a strong and independent woman. She lived life to the fullest being Haven Hills most active resident and helping others right up to the end. She will be missed by her daughter, Elaine Potter, granddaughters Eleanor (Kevin), Tracey (Robert) and great-grandchildren Jakob, Roman, Allen and Lynn.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lawrie, the staff at Sun Village, Home Support and Haven Hill for their tender care of Violet in the last years of her life. Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
