September 15, 1956 - January 9, 2022
Surrounded with love and compassion, Bill McAleese passed away peacefully on January 09, 2022 in Penticton Hospice, after a valiant three-year battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his soulmate and devoted partner, Ann (née Davies), his much-loved daughters, Vanessa McAleese, Jennifer (Kevin) Christian and his grandsons, Riley and Nathan and step-granddaughters, Lauren and Natalie, they are his legacy.
He was predeceased by his cherished son Billy (William Nathan). The boys are united again.
Bill was born on September 15, 1956 in St. Catharines, Ontario to William (late) and Betty McAleese. His love and laughter will be missed by his devoted siblings, Mary Anne (Bob) Kormos, Elizabeth (Chuck) Mahoney, Jane (Peter) McAleese-Timbrell, Patricia (Brian) Storosko, John (Roberta) McAleese, Sheila (Jerry) McLaughlin and Ellen McAleese, as well as numerous McAleese nieces and nephews.
He was especially loved by his mother-in-law Phyllis Davies (late), sister-in-law Sylvia Kellett, and his nieces Stephanie Kellett and Sarah Johnson. He was a loving constant in their lives, and always made them know they were special.
We take comfort knowing Bill lived life large and cut a wide swath in this life. The phrase "you can't do that" was a mere suggestion, and there wasn't anything he couldn't manage, or at least try...once. The many stories of his adventures and misadventures have allowed us to laugh through our tears, on this journey.
Bill focused on the natural gifts in this world; the lakes and hills surrounding the Okanagan Valley, the sunsets over Lake Ontario, as well as the human spirit. No judgement; just kindness, friendship and a few laughs. Keeping this in mind, a celebration of life will take place at a later date, when the sun is shining and the waters of Skaha Lake are warm.
Bill's niece Stephanie captured his spirit beautifully... "I am grateful that you get to fly free now. Out of the body that you squeezed so much work out of, and so many experiences out of. Like Peter Pan, delighting in your own magic."
