Grateful for transit

Penticton bus drivers are always courteous and helpful and put a priority on the safety of passengers

It is with many thanks to the transit system and their wonderful staff (men and woman) who drive the buses here in Penticton that I write this letter. Since August 2011, using the bus system has absolutely been a godsend. The buses run on time, the drivers are always courteous and will go out of their way to help people in need to get on and off the bus.

I have never seen an article thanking the men and women who, on a daily basis and without discriminating, help us use this means of transportation.

I have personally been helped when needing to catch a connecting bus — the driver has called ahead and that bus has waited for me. When a wheelchair-bound person comes on board, the driver always, always makes sure that they are locked in for their own safety.

When mothers with children and strollers board, again the driver makes sure that the strollers are out of the way of other people coming and going, but most importantly, that everyone is safe. If someone has questions about what route to take and what bus number to catch, the drivers have always been very helpful.

This kindness and consideration should be honoured and we should say a huge ‘Thank you’ for a job well done.

And while I want to bring positive attention to the transit system, I also want to thank the city for their great walking/biking trails keeping us safe and providing beautiful scenery to enjoy.

When the weather was good last year, I could bike to work. The trail I took brought me through the high school path. If I had the morning shift, I enjoyed stopping and looking at the fanatic scenery. It is a gift from God to be living in this community.

Best regards and thanks Penticton.
