Letter: Battle for rights

We need to watch carefully that the backward steps in human decency that Trump has proposed do not spill over into our society.

With the hatred and venom that has been brought out in the open in the U.S. election campaign, many minority groups in the U.S. have new reason to fear for their wellbeing and personal safety.

Here in Canada, we need to watch carefully that the backward steps in human decency that Trump has proposed do not spill over into our society.

LGBTQQ2SA people and their allies have fought some bitter battles to gain rights many take for granted. One of the big battles took place in New York City in 1969: The Stonewall Riots.

At our meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19, PFLAG Canada Penticton Chapter will view a documentary on this important step in civil rights. All are welcome to our meeting, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Oasis United Church, 2964 Skaha Lake Rd.
