Letter: Consider the needs of seniors

Healthy Penticton challenge did not appear to have taken into consideration seniors

Penticton Western News letters to the editor.

My interest was piqued by the two articles (Penticton Western News, March 7, Healthy Penticton is the theme for Smart Cities Challenge and Seniors to make up 77 per cent of Penticton’s population growth).

What stood our for me was that the Healthy Penticton challenge did not appear to have taken into consideration the study that indicates that our primary growth will be of seniors. Thus, while the group did a remarkable job in trying to reach the members that make up our city it becomes evident that for whatever reasons, seniors in this city did not respond to the questionnaire or the open houses that were held to discuss the future of our city.

A healthy city is one that provides for all sectors of its population and while we certainly want to encourage young families and young entrepreneurs to come to our city, leaving out the age group from a national challenge might be considered more than just an oversight.

Perhaps the final submission to the challenge will include in its broad-strokes, the needs of seniors in this city.
