Letter: Getting connected

Like many seniors in our community, communication for me is still best face-to-face

Penticton Western News letters to the editor.

Thank you Keith MacIntyre for your informative letter (Penticton Western News, March 21, Smart Cities Challenge is for senior’s too).

The inclusion of the website to the new questionnaire — which I did fill out — was helpful and your final question “how can we connect and communicate better?” still challenges me. We are already so electronically connected that I am not sure what else we might add. I can get information about the city on its website, including the many activities, meetings and so on that are part of our community. I can connect to any one of the Penticton chat groups on Facebook. What I can’t comment on are the more current methods of communication, such as Twitter or Snapchat etc., which elude me.

One area that comes to mind which we might explore more is TV. For most seniors, TV is a very viable communication system. Personally I enjoy the local news, albeit its focus is primarily Kelowna. Could we have a local channel that provides us not only with information but also with current events, our Penticton Vees hockey games, multicultural events, concerts and so on along with municipal meetings, town-hall discussions and political debates? I may be way off the mark with that suggestion but like many seniors in our community, communication for me is still best face-to-face with print a great second best.
