Letter: Laws favour criminals

New directives need to come down from the higher echelon that actually give the victims some rights

I have often been fairly been outspoken about the sad state of affairs regarding our legal system and policing.

If you think I am wrong, then please consider the following. Recently, a taxi driver had his wallet stolen from his cab by a female fare, who then disappeared into an infamous (and allegedly crime free) house in Penticton. He was unable to retrieve his wallet at that time.

Fast forward to a few days later. The same cab driver spots the lady who stole his wallet, detains her until police arrive, only to have the police let her walk, and then (get this) chastise the cab driver and warn him he could have been arrested for assault.

Tell me folks; what is wrong with this picture? As far as I am concerned, this is no different than Trump spurning our allies and cozying up to Putin and Kim Jung Un.

New directives need to come down from the higher echelon that actually give the victims some rights. This is absolutely unacceptable. Period.
