Penticton Western News letters to the editor.

Not the right area for B.C. Housing Why did B.C. Housing purchase the former Super 8 Motel?

They are wanting to turn it into housing for the homeless, mental health and the addicted. Wouldn’t these people be better served if they were housed on the Penticton Hospital site where treatment and supervision is readily available? Yes, these people need to go somewhere but the proposed location is wrong.

This is prime business real estate, on our very busy Main Street. Isn’t this a tourist dependent city? Yes, it is close to transit, shopping and restaurants — just what tourist are looking for.

I know this is sounds like another case of not in my backyard but shouldn’t the local residents have been informed of the plans before the purchase.

Our neighbourhoods are already paying a high price with vagrants and petty crime.

If this proposal is approved our property values will be affected and we should at least be awarded with lower property taxes. When are mayor and council going to start looking after the taxpayers?
