Shocked at transit fares

I was shocked to see in the South Okanagan — Similkameen B.C. Transit Rider’s Guide that, effective July 1, 2017, “seniors’” fares and fares for “children under six” have been eliminated.

All cash fares are being increased to $2.25 each (for local travel).

Prior to July 1, 2017, seniors’ fares were $1.75 each, or 10 tickets at a discounted price of $12.50.

After July 1, 2017, all fares will be $2.25 each, or 10 tickets for $20.25.

For seniors, that is a 28 per cent increase in a single fare, and a whopping 72 per cent increase for 10 tickets.

After July 1, 2017, Children under six will no longer travel free, and their fare will be $2.25 each. Are parents aware of this?

How does something like this get approved without input from the public, or did I miss the memo?
