Thank you for the positive news about the college partnerships (Penticton Western News, Jan. 20, College partners to grow youth employment opportunities),
I think I might have placed that on page two or even on page one, though the approval of the resort expansion is also good news. I consider the potential partnerships of the college to be essential to all the young people, whom I am sure your paper is interested in reaching out to, correct?
When I was in school, I thought about what I’d like to be from time to time but admittedly I didn’t put enough planning or thought into it and when it came to high school that was such a struggle that I was all too happy to “triumphantly” leave in Grade 12, enter the work world and not give another thought to college or university (my grades didn’t help).
I have paid the price over the years as I have found out that, whatever their birth culture, that small/medium/large business owners can be brutal employers whether they are owners of doughnut shops or security patrol companies. I went to college in an effort to improve my situation, but that didn’t work out very well for a number of reasons.
We all ought to do our utmost to prepare our children for the life of work/career and to ensure that they have strong choices not just wishes or desires.
