Shumaker is an avid hiker, archer and kayaker, and he has concerns about environmental decisions and the effects provincial policies will have on the environment in the future.
He is also concerned about issues affecting First Nations communities within the province.
Shumaker said he decided to put his name forward as the party’s candidate after hearing Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau would not be able to participate in leader debates unless the party had a candidate in each B.C. riding.
The provincial election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24.
At present, there are four candidates in the riding of Penticton. They are Dan Ashton of the B.C. Liberals, Toni Boot of the New Democratic Party Keith MacIntyre of the B.C. Libertarian Party and Shumaker of the Green Party.
