The Apex Ski Club had a very strong showing at the giant Slalom race at Sun Peaks Resort during the Jan. 12 weekend. Twenty racers battled the cold and their competitors to come out with great results in the season-opener.
Leading the Apex Ski Clulb was 15-year-old Meg Cumming, a Grade 10 student at Penticton Secondary School, who is considered the true leader ofher ski team.
“Meg won every race she competed in,” said ASC president Don Grant in an email. “She is an outstanding athlete.”
Other top 10 performances included Jesse Howden fourth, Grace Grant eighth, Reece Howden seventh, Elsa Knutson ninth, Keefer Wells eighth and Ella Pasin 10th.
A number of younger skiers from Apex had strong results as well; Aaron Leaman a silver and a bronze medal. Chase Davies fifth, Melissa Lapraire fifth, Tamatea Westby seventh and Hanna DeBoer ninth.
The Apex Ski Club also just started their Nancy Greene (Carvers) program Jan. 6, with over 50 families involved. The club has many more races and events lined up for the next few months. To find out more about the club, check www.apexskiclub.com.
